Citizen alerts police of leak on gas line to Hamlet building

A thief looking for copper cut the propane line to a public building in Hamlet, leaving the gas running this month. A citizen reported the circumstance to Hamlet Police before any explosion occurred.

An investigation is underway to identify the offender or offenders.

Arrests reported by Hamlet Police during the month of June include:

Lincoln Grooms, 49, homeless, was arrested for misdemeanor counts of intoxicated and disruptive, indecent exposure and resisting a public officer. His bond was set at $1,000.

Eddie Griffin, 21, of Baltimore Drive, Hamlet, was arrested for misdemeanor larceny. His bond was set at $1,500.

Larry Allen, 49, of Wilmington Street, Hamlet, was arrested for misusing the 911 phone system. His bond was set at $1,000.

n Phillip Stewart, 45, of Henderson Street, Hamlet, was arrested for failure to appear on charges of driving while license revoked and expired or no inspection. His bond was set at $500.

At the Rockingham Police Department, lawmen reported Cordero Parker, 21, of JFK Drive, Rockingham, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure. His bond was set at $5,000.

According to arrest reports, the weapon he used to assault another man was a .380-caliber handgun.

In another case, a Rockingham man is accused of leaving a child covered in bruises after grabbing her.

Miguel Hernandez, 28, of B. Robinson Street, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor child abuse. His bond was set at $5,000.

Other arrests reported by the Rockingham Police Department in June include:

Brandon Wadley, 27, of Sedgefield Road, Rockingham, was arrested on an order for arrest for driving while license revoked, driving while license revoked and possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $2,000.

Michelle Price, 41, of Hannah Pickett Avenue, was arrested on an order for arrest for driving while license revoked. Her bond was set at $500.

Monica Barnhill, 29, of 3rd Avenue, Aleo, Rockingham, was arrested for failure to appear on charges of shoplifting and concealment of goods, both misdemeanors. Her bond was set at $500.

John Boyd, 22, homeless, was arrested for second degree trespassing at a business on U.S. 74. His bond was set at $500.

Zachary Roscoe, 21, of Freeman Mill Road, Rockingham, was arrested for a probation violation. His bond was set at $10,000.

James Chappell, 40, of Greenbriar Lane, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with communicating threats. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Samuel Treadaway, 22, of Essie Mae Lane, was arrested on an order for arrest in connection with driving while license revoked. His bond was set at $500.

James Lord, 52, of Robinson Street, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with communicating threats. He was given a bond of $2,000.

Julie Wooten, 44, of Farmwood Drive, Laurinburg, was arrested and charged with obtaining property by false pretense. Her bond was set at $10,000.

Timothy “Tim” Inman, 18, of Peachland Drive, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor larceny. His bond was set at $500.

Samuel Barrington, 21, of Lake Road, Rockingham, was also arrested and charged with misdemeanor larceny in the incident. His bond was also set at $500.

The two are accused of taking merchandise from a business on U.S. 74.

Arthur “Pee Wee” Ingram, 34, of Ingram Street, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with resisting a public officer. His bond was set at $500.

Edward Blue, 52, of Ellen Drive, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with second degree trespassing. His bond was set at $500.

Tonya Patel, 34, of Bryan Circle, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault. She was held under no bond.

William “Billy” Lamm, 33, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Gloria Ellerbe, 46, of Sparrow Road, Bennetsville, S.C., was arrested and charged with misdemeanor larceny. Her bond was set at $300.

Two juveniles were arrested for fighting on the school bus.

Another two juveniles were arrested in connection with a larceny from a home on Elder Street.

A juvenile was cited for losing or stealing a school band instrument.

Incidents reported by Hamlet Police during June include:

On June 1, a home was reported broken into on Henderson Street, and a sewing machine, dresser, medicine cabinet and two floor fans were reported stolen.

On June 3, two air units were reported stolen from Greenfield Drive.

On June 6, a resident of Rice Street reported lawn furniture was stolen from their yard.

Also on June 6, the doors to a car parked on Madison Avenue were damaged as someone tried to break in to the car.

Also on June 6, a business reported someone drove off with $10 of gas without paying.

On June 7, a Raleigh Street resident reported his ATM card was stolen from his truck.

Incidents reported by the Rockingham Police Department during the month of June include:

On June 1, an attempted break-in to a home on Montclair Avenue was reported.

On June 2, someone reported their tires had been slashed on Parker Lane.

Also, a business on U.S. 74 reported a larceny.

Also, an assault on a female was reported at a home on Skipper Street.

Also, items were reported stolen from a vehicle on Business 74.

On June 3, the owner of a vehicle reported a man mowing their lawn kicked up a rock that broke one of the vehicle’s windows.

Also, a theft was reported from a home on Mandala Lane.

Also, a business on 74 reported someone broke into its coin machine.

On June 4, items were reported stolen from a truck on Cumberland Circle, as well as a car on the same street.

Also, items were reported stolen from a car on East Washington Street, and a handgun was reported stolen from a vehicle on Hillcrest Drive.

Also, a pocketbook and cell phone were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a business on Roberdel Road, and items were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a business on Mallard Lane.

Also, someone presented a false prescription at a Rockingham pharmacy. No drugs were obtained, and the suspect wasn’t apprehended.

On June 5, the owner of a vehicle reported the paint job was damaged at a business in downtown Rockingham.

Also, an individual passed a check belonging to a dead person at a business on Roberdel Road.

On June 6, a truck was reported stolen and property damaged at a residence on 3rd Avenue, Pee Dee, Rockingham.

Also, an assault on a female was reported at a home on North Grove Street.

Also, items were reported stolen from a home on West Side Drive.

On June 7, a breaking and entering and larceny were reported at a home on Circlewood Drive.

Also, a Rockingham non-profit agency reported vandalism to its building on Leak Street.

Also, a home on Hamer Road was reported broken into.

Also, a business on U.S. 74 reported a larceny.

Also, a wallet was reported stolen from a business on U.S. 1.

Also, a domestic assault was reported Pickett Street.

Also, damage to a vehicle was reported at a business on U.S. 1.

Also, someone reported receiving threatening text messages.

Arrest reports published in the Richmond County Daily Journal are copied from local law enforcement records. Except for people injured in motor vehicle accidents or reportable deaths, victims including people, businesses and institutions and their addresses are not included as a matter of newspaper policy. Reports include both arrests and criminal summons such as citations. The Daily Journal lists them all as arrests. People charged are presumed innocent until determined to be guilty by a court of law.
