Kathy Gainey, left, Richmond County Clerk of Superior Court, presents Dr. John Stevenson, president of the Richmond County Historical Society, with the original typewritten copy of the "Historical Sketch of the Pee Dee Guards," 1876, which the Southern Historical Society of Richmond County asked H. C. Wall to write.
Among other books Gainey presented to the society was an 1817 copy of "North Carolina History" in which there is a handwritten note by Robert L. Steele. Stevenson said as offices are being moved from the courthouse to the new judicial center, he hopes other such historical material will also be donated to the society.
