Rockingham police make drug arrests

Investigations by the City of Rockingham Police Department in May have resulted in several drug arrests and seizures.

Robert “Rob” Prentice, 37, of McDowell Lane, Rockingham, was arrested last week and charged with felony counts of the sale and delivery of cocaine, manufacturing cocaine and maintaining a place to keep a controlled substance.

He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Also seized during the investigation were three grams of cocaine, digital scales, a spoon used in manufacturing crack cocaine, a lighter, a box of plastic bags and a box of baking soda.

The following day, Akim “Fat Boy” Franklin, 32, of Wiregrass Road, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with felony counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, simple possession of cocaine and maintaining a place to keep a controlled substance.

Arrest reports show a search warrant of his home uncovered a gram of cocaine and two grams of marijuana.

On May 16, Bryan Smith, 20, of Richmond Road, was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana and maintaining a place to keep controlled substances.

He was given a $1,000 bond.

Arrest reports show 26 grams of marijuana, a small caliber handgun and $76 in cash were seized from his vehicle.

Other arrests reported by Rockingham Police include:

n Arthur “Pee Wee” Ingram, 34, of Ingram Street, Rockingham was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of second degree trespassing and failure to appear. His bond was set at $1,000.

n James Lynch, 24, of Highway 381, Hamlet, was arrested and charged was arrested with attempted breaking and entering. He was given a $5,000 bond.

n Sandra Hamilton, 40, of Old Cheraw Highway, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor larceny. She was given a bond of $1,500.

n Dori Kiker, 36, of Beeler Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and possession of stolen property. She was given a bond of $2,000.

n Rhonda Covington, 31, of Ann Street, Rockingham, was served an order for arrest. She was given a bond of $300.

Arrests reported by the Hamlet Police Department include:

n Michael Johnson, 19, of Thomas St., Hamlet, was arrested and charged with failure to appear in court. He was given a bond of $500.

Two days later, Johnson was again arrested and charged with possessing a stolen firearm. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

n Rodney Brock, 20, U.S. 74 E., Hamlet, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, possession of marijuana and provisional driving while impaired. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

n Jeffery Willett, 46, of Palmer Wright Road, Hamlet, for failure to appear in court. He was given a $500 bond.

n Mortquan “Quan” Mitchell, 27, of Mount Moriah Road, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was given a bond of $500.

Thanks Richco, I dont know why that didn't enter my mind. Maybe the law enforcement could make more uses of these monitoring devices so the accused can stay at home. But if you are accused of selling drugs, what keeps someone from doing it at home while on house arrest. But then, what keeps the accused from selling more drugs if the put up bond? I don't have an answer to lower crime. All I can say is the Bible says as the time grows shorter, that man will become more evil.

Bocephus, it is called an overcrowded jail due to our DA not pushing cases through the system. The people spoke and when Reece Saunders get in the office I'm sure you won't read stories like this. I totally agree with you if you were wondering.

Why no bond? A written promise to appear? But everyone else in this story was given bonds to pay? What gives here?
