A Rockingham man is in custody charged with multiple arsons in the Town of Dobbins Heights that town officials said have caused concern among its citizenry.

Brandon “B” Goldston, 34, of Old River Road, Rockingham, has been charged with two counts of burning an uninhabited home. He was given a bond of $50,000.

According to arrest reports, he was identified by an eye witness.

However, after the arrest another fire was started during the early morning hours Friday.

After Goldston was taken into custody Mayor Antonio Blue said another fire took place on Rose Street.

“We’ve had eight this week,” Blue said Friday. “All of these happened in the wee hours of the morning, and seven of them were structure fires, while another was a brush fire.”

He said the first house that burned was on Gordon Street, followed by houses on Morrow Street, Paige Street and on Earle Franklin Drive the next two days.

A brush fire was also set on Morrow Street.

The fire Friday morning burned a house off Rose Street. This was the only structure that didn’t burn to the ground.

Blue said that all but one of the houses was vacant, and only that one had utilities hooked up.

“Is there a sense of concern? Yes, there’s a grave concern,” Blue said. “Is there a sense of urgency? Yes, there is. I spoke with the sheriff Tuesday and he said that we did have the full support of the sheriff’s department and they would increase security in Dobbins Heights until these cases are solved.”

No one has been injured in any of the fires.

Dobbins Heights Town Clerk Mary Magee said everyone in Dobbins Heights has been talking about the fires.

“When I got here this morning, the first I heard was, ‘They got another one last night,’” Magee said.

The Hamlet Fire Department referred questions about the fires to the sheriff’s department.
