Even though his bio places Stuart, Fla. as his home, the logos plastered on the side of his race cars indicate something a little different.

That is why this week’s running of the USAR Pro Cup Carolina 200 presented by Black’s Tire and Auto Service is a homecoming of sorts for Bryan Silas, driver of the No. 59 Mark Gibson Racing (MGR) Rockingham Speedway/Palm Beach Grading Chevy.

Silas, who is a regular in the ARCA Racing Series for Andy Hillenburg’s Fast Track Racing, is competing in a majority of the USAR races this year and had the Carolina 200 circled on his calendar when the schedule was released.

“I can’t say anything bad about racing at Rockingham,” said Silas. “It is a driver’s racetrack. You can be competitive even with less horsepower. We were running sixth last year at the white flag with a car that probably had 15-30 less horsepower than the guys we were running against.”

In regards to what it takes to be fast at The Rock, Silas sings the same refrain as drivers have for over forty years.

“You have to take care of the tires, they fall off so fast,” he said. “It really makes it a fun place to race.”

Along with his ARCA sechedule and the USAR foray, the 22-year old Silas started the Daytona NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in February and may make a few more truck starts if sponsorship comes together.

“The ARCA Series schedule worked out this year for us to make more USAR starts with MGR this year,” Silas said. “Our focus is running for the championship in ARCA, but the USAR series is fun and a great way for me to get some seat time.”
