On April 22, a joint investigation by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockingham Police Department narcotics units into drug activity on Highway 381 led to two arrests and the seizure of 26 grams of heroin.
Omar “Alex” Brown, 28, of Cardinal Drive, Hamlet, was charged with several drug counts, as well as several counts stemming from a car chase.
Brown is charged with one felony count each of trafficking in heroin, conspiracy to traffic in heroin and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. He received a $75,000 bond.
According to arrest reports, Brown was approached by an officer at the intersection of Highway 381 and Cardinal Drive and he fled.
After the chase, Brown was arrested on the drug charges and misdemeanor charges of resisting a public officer, fleeing to elude arrest and failure to heed blue lights. He was given a $25,000 bond for the misdemeanor charges.
Also arrested was Erica King, 32, of Wilmington, a passenger in the vehicle, who was charged with resisting arrest. She was jailed under $10,000 bond.
A Richmond County man has also been charged with trafficking in marijuana by the sheriff’s office after a search of his home uncovered more than 10 pounds of marijuana.
Enedino Hernandez, 29, of Wallace Road in Ellerbe, faces the trafficking charge as well as felony charges of possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance. He was given a bond of $100,000.
An additional investigation is underway to determine if the man gave authorities a false name.
The arrest is the result of a joint investigation by the sheriff’s office Vice/Narcotics Unit, the DEA, Moore County’s Vice Unit and others.
Officers conducted a knock and talk investigation at his residence, and were given consent to search the home. That search uncovered the marijuana.
The sheriff’s office also arrested a pair of alleged cocaine dealers on April 26.
On that day, David “Pee Wee” English, 51, of 301 Ponderosa Drive in Hamlet, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine, the sale or delivery of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possessing drug paraphernalia.
According to arrest reports a controlled purchase of a gram of cocaine was made from English on the same day, then a search warrant was executed on his home.
According to arrest reports, the search uncovered a crack pipe in a bedroom of the residence.
Also arrested was Jerry Sweeney, 31, of the same address, who is listed as a relative of English. He is charged with one count of maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance.
In a separate incident, Christopher Cox, 31, was arrested at his home, 112 Horseshoe Drive in Dobbins Heights, after an RCSO search warrant uncovered cocaine and marijuana. He was given a $100,000 bond.
He is charged with one count each of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, manufacturing marijuana and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The search uncovered 40 grams of cocaine and 364 grams of marijuana
According to the arrest report, more than one firearm was seized, as well as ammunition.
Other arrests reported by the sheriff’s office include:
Jarrod Swink, 20, of Sharon Road in Rockingham, was charged with larceny by an employee. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
According to the arrest report, more than $100 worth of items were stolen from the store where he works.
Jeffrey Cook, 23, of 197 Eason Drive in Rockingham, was charged with two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense, a felony count of larceny and a count of possession of stolen goods. He was given a bond of $10,000.
According to arrest reports, $1,500 worth of property was taken from a victim’s backyard, and the subsequent investigation led to Cook’s arrest.
Christopher Rainwater, 37, of Sleepy Hollow Drive in Rockingham, was charged with attempted breaking and entering and injury to real property. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
Raymond Sanchez, 36, of Billy Covington Road in Rockingham, was charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny after breaking and entering. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
