A mother’s love is special, and their reserved day is Sunday. Cards and flowers will be sent out in abundance, and appreciation will be shown.

This a special time for those living in nursing facilities because they require that extra love. Britthaven of Hamlet will have activities for their residents who are mothers on Sunday. Each resident will receive a carnation. Tamiko Miller activities director for Britthaven of Hamlet said, “Even those who may not get a visit from a loved one on Mother’s Day will be recognized and appreciated.”

On Monday they will have an “All About Mom’s Day” where the residents who are mothers will be treated to a spa like atmosphere and receive a gift with gospel singing for the entertainment.

Rockingham Manor also has something things planned for the mothers in their facility. On Thursday there were singers that came in to entertain residents. On Friday there was a Mother’s Day fashion show and residents had a chance to do crafts and make flowers to decorate their rooms. On Sunday the residents will have a chance to play double bingo, there will a dinner for the nurses and free corsages.

Virginia Grooms of Rockingham is a new resident in Britthaven and this will be the first Mother’s Day she has spent there.

“I loved it so much after I had my therapy here I decided to live here since I stayed alone,” Grooms said. “I look forward to seeing my kids” Grooms has eight children, five sons in Richmond County, a daughter in Va. and two sons in South Carolina.

Pauline Thompson has been a resident at Britthaven of Hamlet for more than a year.

“I love flowers so much, that one of my daughters took me to Lowe’s to get some flowers to hang outside me window,” Thompson said. “My daughter said, ‘Now when you open your blinds you will have something beautiful to look at.’"

Thompson has two daughters one in Raleigh and the other in Asheboro.

“Tamiko has treated me like I was important and I am truly grateful,” Thompson said.

“I enjoy planning activities each month,” said Barbara Bowman, activity director at Rockingham Manor. “I love my residents. We try to accommodate everyone’s interests.”

Residents of Rockingham Manor like everything about the facility, even if there is no special occasion.

Margaret Williams said, “I have one daughter Sherry. I lost my mother when I was 14 years old.” “I am proud of my daughter, son in law, granddaughter and grandson and two great grandchildren who I love dearly.”

Mary Rucker said, “I am proud of my children I have two boys Chris and David. They take care of me, and I am proud to have a home at Rockingham Manor.”

“I have five children four girls, and one boy,” said Emma Currie. “ I am proud of my children.”
