Staff Report

Two Rockingham cousins were killed in traffic accident in Raeford Monday night when their vehicle ran a stop sign and was broadsided.

Wiley Ratliff, 54 of Mary Wall Road, Rockingham, was traveling on Army Road in a Chevrolet sedan when he ran the stop sign at the intersection of Army and Callaway Roads and was struck by another vehicle, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

A passenger, William Henry Liles, 62, Ratliff Road, Rockingham, was traveling with Ratliff.

State troopers said when they arrived on the scene, the Chevrolet was overturned on the left side of the road and both men were deceased.

The name of the driver of the other vehicle has not been released, but he was transported from the scene in an ambulance with what were described as “serious injuries.”

Troopers said no one will be cited in the accident, since Ratliff was at fault.

According to death notices sent to the Daily Journal, funeral arrangements for the two men are being made by Nelson Funeral Home of Rockingham.
