Jim Chavis, member of the board of directors at the Rankin Museum of American Heritage in Ellerbe, works with children Saturday during the museum's Geology Dig.
Children dug into sand at the Rankin Museum of American Heritage Saturday in Ellerbe during the Geology Dig sponsored by the Rockingham Rotary Club to discover minerals and gemstones.

Gail Benson, supervisor of collections at the museum, talked with participants about the material they found and how it was formed millions of years ago and took them on a tour of the museum. Children went home with a bag full of their discoveries courtesy of the Rotary Club.
