The Humane Society of Richmond County will hold a "Meet and Greet" fundraiser May 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot behind Champion Ford at the Falling Creek Shopping Center in Rockingham.

HSRC board members invite the public as well as candidates in the upcoming election to come out and get to know the Humane Society and its mission.

Hot dog and hamburger plates will be on sale for $5 beginning at 11 a.m. HSRC T-shirts, gift shop items and spay/neuter certificates and adoptable puppies will also be available.

May is "Be Kind to Animals Month" in Richmond County, said Candy Bacon, director.

“One of the kindest thing a pet owner can do is to spay or neuter their pet,” she said. “It not only makes for a healthier pet but eases the burden of unwanted puppies and kittens that may end up at the shelter.

For more information call the animal shelter at 895-0335 or Valerie Davis, 334-0275.
