Richmond Senior’s J.V. softball squad continues to play well.

Tuesday afternoon. the Lady Raiders kept their 2010 season record unblemished at 9-0 overall (4-0 Southeastern Conference) with a 4-0 shutout of SEC foe Purnell Swett.

Cierra Bowden went the distance in the circle for the J.V. Lady Raiders, recording 15 strikeouts out of 21 possible outs.

“Cierra did a good job of keeping the hitters off balance all afternoon,” said Richmond J.V. coach Kyle Hutchinson.

“And the defense played well behind her.”

Indeed, the J.V. Lady raiders played error-free softball.

Richmond scored one run in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth.

Leading hitters for Richmond included Caroline Kirkland, who went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles on the afternoon.

Elizabeth Pittman was 1-for-3 with a double, and Destiny Shoe also had a pair of hits, going 2-for-3.

All season long, the J.V. Lady Raiders have been putting together the three main elements of the game on a consistent basis: Good pitching, good defense and timely hitting.

Hutchinson hopes that continues.

The J.V. Lady Raiders return to action on Friday. Richmond will host SEC foe Lumberton at 5 p.m.
