Lady Raiders blow out Pinecrest on the road

SOUTHERN PINES — The Richmond Senior softball team had its bats humming Tuesday night at Pinecrest, blowing out the Patriots, 22-3 in a game stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Maggie McKenzie got the win for Richmond, and the Raiders also got a pair of home runs from Brittani Hodges.

Hodges was 5-for-5 on the night, with five runs scored and six RBIs Alex Gardner was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

McKenzie and Rebecca Kinsey had three hits apiece.

The Lady Raiders (5-3 overall, 2-0 SEC) set the tone for the night with an 11-run first inning. Taylor Satterfield had a two-RBI double, Ashlee Floyd added a two-RBI triple, and Kinsey and Gardner also had two-RBI hits in the big inning.

“Our entire lineup hit the ball well,” Richmond interim coach Shelley Wimpey said.

The Lady Raiders return to SEC action on Thursday when they travel to Scotland for a 6 p.m. contest.

Varsity Baseball

Pinecrest 15, Richmond 0

It was a night to forget for the Richmond Senior baseball team Tuesday night on the road at Pinecrest. The SEC-leading Patriots prevailed, 15-0 in a contest stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

The Raiders (2-2 SEC) managed just two hits against the Patriots: singles by Jeremy Outen and Chandler Conner.

The Raiders gave up a pair of first-inning homers and found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-0 score early. Pinecrest added another pair of runs in the second.

On the night, three Raider pitchers surrendered a total of four homers.

Richmond returns to action on Thursday at Scotland. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Middle School Baseball

Hamlet 6, Rockingham 3

The Hamlet nine improved to 6-0 on the season (3-0 conference) with the victory over their cross-county rivals.

Nic Bullard got the victory on the mound for Hamlet, pitching four innings and striking out seven. James Buie finished the game, fanning five.

Mike Rush led hamlet at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, single and two RBIs. Anthony Billingsley was 1-for-2 with a double; Bradley Brown was 1-for-3 with a single; and Cody Leviner was 1-for-2 with a single.

Hamlet is idle until after next week’s spring break. The next game is Monday, April 19 at 4 p.m. at home vs. Anson.

Middle School Girls Soccer

Hamlet 6, Rohanen 0

Earlier, Hamlet got four goals and an assist from Brianna David to remain undefeated on the young season at 4-0.

Sydney Treece and Cassie Smith added goals for Hamlet.

Hamlet returns to action April 15.
