SOUTHERN PINES — Richmond Senior’s men’s tennis team dropped its first Southeastern Conference dual meet of the 2010 season Tuesday night on the road at Pinecrest, falling to the Patriots, 8-1.

Andrew Wheeler and Cameron Page notched the only match win of the night for Richmond, defeating Pinecrest’s Will Grime and Steve Lineberger, 9-7.

Richmond travels to Scotland on Thursday for another SEC contest.

First match is set for 4 p.m.

Raider Gold 12, Pinecrest 0

Raider Gold had its bats humming as the Raiders shut out the Patriots in a contest halted early due to the 10-run rule.

Jacob Sears went the distance on the mound, giving up just four hits while striking out six.

Adam Sweatt was 3-for-3 with a double.

Drew Butler was 3-for-4 with a double. Cody Huoneycutt went 2-for-3 with a double, and Chandler Hann, Alex Norton, Devontae Watkins and Sears each had one hit.

Middle School Boys Soccer

Rockingham 7, West Hoke 0

Rockingham Middle School’s girls soccer team improved to 2-0 on the young season last week with a convincing win over West Hoke.

Dann Diaz talllied a hat trick for Rockingham, with two goals and an assist. Sergio Garcia added two goals, Campbell Evans had a goal and an assist, and Brandon Greene had a goal. Evans was named player of the game.

The Rockingham girls won their game, 4-0.
