The Richmond Senior J.V. baseball team got just eight hits Friday night at home against Hoke. But the Raiders made them count, clubbing the Bucks, 13-0 in a game stopped after five inings due to the 10-run rule.

Richmond (5-0 overall, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) got four shutout innings from Ryan Mercer in the win. Nathan Cain mopped up with a scoreless fifth.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start, but we got the bats going,” J.V. Raiders coach Sam Williams said. “We were able to steal some bases, and that helped us get some runners in scoring position.”

Richmond scored just one run in the bottom of the first, but struck for four in the second.

Leading 9-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the J.V. Raiders put an exclamation point on the contest when Austin Brower ht a grand slam.

Cain led the J.V. Raiders at the plate, going 2-for-3. Jordan Tucker was 1-for 3, as was Brower. Alex Clark was 1-for-1.

The J.V. Raiders return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Purnell Swett. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m..
