But on Monday night, the Raiders had the long ball working as well, as Raider Green also clubbed a pair of homers en route to an 8-7 come-from-behind win over Pinecrest.
In the bottom of the third, it was Robert Williams going yard over the center-field fence to put Raider Green up 2-1.
And later, with the Raiders trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth, Cody Wilson hit a two-run homer to the deepest part of the park and give his team the winning margin.
The Raiders (1-1) rallied with five runs in the frame to claim the win. They also took advantage of a Pinecrest error, and scored another run on a double steal.
It’s just the kind of “keep the opponent guessing” game Raider Green coach Dustin Braddock wants to play.
“I’m proud of our guys for battling back,” Braddock said. “That’s exactly what we want to do. We want to challenge teams to make plays.”
Richmond also scored on the most exciting play in baseball: Stealing home, as Wilson singled in the bottom of the first, moved to second on a bad pickoff throw, stole third, and then stole home.
Raider Green returns to action next Monday, hosting Raider Gold at 4:30 p.m.
