An Aberdeen man facing murder charges in the death of Sayquan Dametrias Baker on Monday has several prior charges and two convictions, according to Richmond County court documents.

Baker, 23, was found dead in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Ellerbe Monday afternoon from apparent gunshot wounds, Richmond County Sheriff Dale Furr said Wednesday.

Cadara Antwon Armstrong, 23, and three others were picked up by deputies Tuesday for questioning and arrested at the sheriff’s office the same day.

Court records say that prior to this week’s charges, Armstrong was incarcerated in March 2008 for misdemeanor assault with intent to seriously injure. He was jailed for a violation of probation terms from an earlier conviction.

He spent a little over two months in the Richmond County Jail.

In February 2003, Armstrong was arrested on charges of misdemeanor simple affray but those charges were dropped, court records said.

In February 2006, he was found guilty of misdemeanor resisting a public officer and sentenced to six months probation. Another charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct was dropped.

In April 2006, two charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to seriously injure were dropped and he was convicted of the lesser crime, misdemeanor assault with intent to seriously injure.

A misdemeanor assault on a female charge was dropped in June 2007.

In addition to Armstrong, three Ellerbe men were charged with accessory after the fact. Dequawn Anthony Nicholson, Carlos Jermaine Bostick and Kendrick Dezron Little had no previous charges on their records.

Armstrong is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail awaiting an April court date.

All three men charged with accessory after the fact were placed under separate $25,000 bonds.

Monique, I'm sorry that you and the family of the person who was killed have to go through this. What I found is that sometimes people get caught up in the moment of things and along with the pressure on the street to be something, they make decisions without thinking them through. I can asure you that if you ask him, he would say that he would have done things differently. As far the Sheriffs office goes, I know that everyone likes to take shots at some mistakes that DO happen in every single agency in this country, but you can bet that even though I don't like some of the politics the Sheriff does, he still is running one of the best Sheriffs office in the state. He has good people working for him and they don't just go out and arrest people for fun. I might add this to the person who posted the comment about the sheriffs office arresting the wrong people. Next time you have someone attempting to break into your house while you are sleeping, call the Moore county Sheriffs office since you don't have any faith in the department in your county and let me know how that works out for ya!

Monique1989,

I sure hope for the sake of justice that the defense calls you to testify. Maybe if the Sheriff had not had been wasting our money and his resources following the DA around he could have prevented this terrible crime. The Sheriffs office has been known to arrest the wrong person, so who know, your baby's daddy may be innocent.

OH THERES A BIG SURPRISE!!! A guy who is accused of commiting murder has a previous criminal history! Don't blame the judges for this or the DA, you can blame the state of North Carolina and there stair step sentencing they force the Judges and DA to go by. You can commit at least 3-4 crimes before getting a jail sentence for any length of time can be imposed. Unless it's a felony then some first time offenders can get some Jail time. Also you can blame defense attorneys. It use to be if you were in trouble and you did'nt do it, a defense attorney would be there to make sure you got treated fairly. Now criminals don't want a fair chance, they expect their attorneys to come up with flat out bold face lie in court to get them off. Most of the time the Judges see through the B.S. but some times the Assistant DA who ever it is at that time drops the ball and does not know enough about the case to ask the right questions. I say give the Judges more space in sentencing and build more jails, because that is another issue. If the Sheriff tells the Judge "hey we are at capacity" then the judge has to take that into consideration as well. Can't put someone in jail if there is not space. So what do they get? Probation! Thats right probation for someone who has no job and through past experiences has no intentions of following through with it. Or, they get a jail sentence which is suspended. Which means you commit a crime the Judge says a fine of $200.00 and 30 days suspended. That means if he does something else anytime soon he gets to spend 30 days in jail. Sounds fair, But lets say you are in Walmart, your in line and a guy walks up to you and punches right in the mouth knocking out your two front teeth, for no reason. Then he runs outside and smashes your windshield of your car. That's two misdemeanor crimes. You now have pain from no teeth and a busted window. You also have a financial burden to bear for a new window and a new set of teeth. The guy gets arested and taken to the Magistrates office and gets a bond. The Magistrates says your bond is $300.00. The criminal calls a bondsman and pays the bondsman 15% of the bond, in this case $45.00 and Bam! He is out walking around again. Keep in mind you are still at the hospital getting your grill looked at. Ok first court date comes 30 days later and the criminal stands up in court and pleads not guilty and I need an attorney. The judge assigns him one of the local attorneys out of the tax payers pocket. The attorney comes back into the court room and asks the judge for a continuance. The Judge says OK. 30 days later the case comes back to court and the attorney asks for a continuance. Judge says OK. This usually goes on for about 4-6 times. All the while you have taken off work with out pay to come to court. Finally the attorney is ready to do the case. His client wants to change his plea from not guilt to guilty. The judge hears the evidence and wants to jump over the bench and hit the criminal in mouth themselves but can not. So the judge looks down at the stair step sentencing and the criminal record and does all she or he can do. $100 fine 30 days in jail supsended, and the DA says we would like the criminal to pay restitution for the damages. Two teeth and a broken windshield $3500.00. 6 months later not one penny has been paid for restitution and the criminal is back again for punching a perfect stranger in the mouth at walmart and busting his windshield!
