Four arrests were made Tuesday morning in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Sayquan Dametrias Baker Monday afternoon in the parking lot of an Ellerbe apartment complex.
Cadara Antwon Armstrong, 23, Kennedy Circle, Aberdeen, was arrested at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office around 11 a.m. Tuesday for the murder of Baker.
Baker died of apparent gun shot wounds to the chest, according to Richmond County Sheriff Dale Furr. The body was sent to Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
Deputies responded to the scene on Dunn Street after several calls came into the dispatcher at the sheriff’s office and 911.
Deputies found Baker lying beside an older model mini-van. The passenger side window was shattered and Baker appeared to have been shot several times in the chest. Deputies gathered enough information from witnesses to bring Armstrong and three others in for questioning Tuesday morning.
In addition to Armstrong, Dequawn Anthony Nicholson, 17, Dunn Street, Ellerbe, Carlos Jermaine Bostick, 20, Pine Cone Circle, Ellerbe and Kendrick Dezron Little, 17, Robinson Street, Ellerbe, were all arrested for felony accessory after the fact and felony obstruction of justice Tuesday.
Nicholson was also charged with a prior misdemeanor for failure to appear. According to Furr, all four of the suspects arrived at the scene together in a vehicle.
“They were picked up several hours later for questioning and arrested at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office,” Furr said.
The there were each placed under a $25,000 bond.
The case is still under investigation, Furr said.
“We had actually arrested the victim the night before for firing into an occupied dwelling,” Furr said.
Baker had fired a gunshot into a home on Dunn Street, Furr said.
The weapon used during the shooting Monday is still under investigation as is Armstrong’s motive.
“It’s all under investigation but it was apparently an on-going dispute for a couple weeks until it came to a head Sunday night,” Furr said. “Baker was released on bond and the next day he ended up dead in the parking lot. They couldn’t wait for the law to take care of it.”
