The hunt is on.

The Daily Journal’s Golden Egg competition kicks off today and publisher Rick Bacon said, wherever you look, don’t bother looking at the Rockingham City Hall, because it’s not there.

But it is somewhere in Richmond County.

The Daily Journal, Anson Record and Cheraw Chronicle have all three typically participated in this competition, but this spring it’s only The Daily Journal.

And this time there will only be one winner, the one who finds the golden egg. The prize is $500.

“Last year the egg was found too soon,” Bacon said. “That’s because we said it was hidden on public property. So this year it’s hidden on a property that is open to the public.”

The property in question could be public or private, but either way, it’s one that is open to the public, such as a church, school, office, etc.

There will be 12 clues and they’ll run in the March 2, March 6, March 9, March 13, March 16, March 20, March 23, March 27, March 30, April 1, April 3 and April 6 editions of the Daily Journal.

The first person to find the egg must bring it to the Richmond County Daily Journal office to claim their prize. There is only one official golden egg.

The clues will be posted at participating advertisers 24 hours after being published in the newspaper. No clues will be given over the telephone.

“It’s a lot of fun and a lot of different people get excited about it,” Bacon said about the egg hunt.
