Quite obviously three of the men running for Sheriff don’t want the job too bad!

Our minority community makes up one third of our population and I figure, correspondingly they probably carry that much of the vote and you can bet that every black voter in the county will turn out to make Major Clemmons their sheriff and rightly so. He is a fine, capable man and he only needs 26 percent of the vote to win.

The leader of the Democratic Party, Mr. Blue, has already announced their support for the major. So what loyalty does the other three owe the Democratic Party? Why wouldn’t at least one of them run under another party; Republican, Independent or unaffiliated in order to at least get on the ticket?

Until today, whoever will have won the Democratic Primary would have been the Sheriff . I was interested in seeing one of those three win; I sent him an email explaining my concerns; his response was not encouraging to me. Today Georgia Cagle threw her hat into the ring as a Republican, assuring a place on the ticket. She is someone I can vote for and I will. You would think that at least one of the three would realize that whoever runs against Major Clemmons in the main election will win! As it stands now Georgia will be Sheriff Cagle! She can obviously think ahead of the game. You go girl!

I must agree with bucsfan. Seriously, Mrs. Jackson, do you know what year you are living in? I realize you come from an older generation but it doesn’t give you an excuse to be so blatantly racist. You've had a number of years and chances to educate yourself against such ignorance. The color of a person's skin shouldn't be in consideration when deciding who to vote for.

FURTHERMORE, to assume you know who an entire race of people will vote for is not only racist but ignorant. What kind of person assumes African Americans will automatically vote for another African American based only on race? That kind of assumption offends me, and I'm white, I can only imagine how offensive it is to the target of your comments.

With all that said I really do feel bad for Georgia Cagle, you do her a disservice by writing letter like this and endorsing her at the end. I certainly hope she has better supporters than you.

So once again this election is turning out to be a poularity contest, but I can assure you it won't be just the black community that elects Maj. James Clemmons as our Sheriff. I'am a white male and I'm 20 years old and my vote will count just as much as anyone else. We really need to move on from the 1950's and face reality we are all the same black, white, hispanic, etc we all breathe the same air, some have different religious views but we are all human and here in the U.S. we are all American and we should all stand united regardless of color. I've always been told make the right decisions. And this is a big one for me, and should be for you all. Especially you Mrs. Jackson. The man that deserves the job and will do it to the fullest with respect for all, James Clemmons. Elect James Clemmons Sheriff of Richmond County.
