Mr. Andrew Lewis Gainey, 81, of 130 Mill St. Hannah Pickett, Rockingham, died Monday, February 22, 2010 in Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Jason Gainey officiaiting.  Interment will follow with military honors in Eastside Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Richmond County, Andrew was born on March 9, 1928 to the late John W. and Victoria Sullivan Gainey.  He graduated from Rockingham high school prior to serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II where he met his wife, the former Pilar Bartolome.  He worked at J.P. Stevens and Clark Equipment Company, and was active in the Rohanen Booster Blub and coaching softball. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Pilar, a son Arthur Ray Gainey, a great-granddaughter Jasmine Day, and a sister Libby Billingsley.

He is survived by four sons, John Gainey of Hamlet, Robert Gainey of Marston, Presley Gainey and David Gainey both of Rockingham; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy, and other times at the home at 130 Mill St., Hannah Pickett.
