Mrs. Carpenter was born April 20, 1932 in Surry County, a daughter of the late Willie Elmer and Rosa Culler Goins. She was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary. She was a graduate of Ellerbe High School, Class of 1950 and retired as secretary of Ellerbe Primary/Jr. High School after 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by her brother, Virgil Goins and a sister, Bessie Kiger.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Bradie Carpenter of the home; son Jeff Carpenter and wife Angie of Candor; daughter, Leeann Carpenter and companion Dana Blake of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Kristy Barnes and husband Josh of Columbia, S.C., Kevin Carpenter of Candor; great grandson, Braxton Barnes; step grandson, Blake Leopard of Rocky Point; Brothers, Otis Goins of Albemarle, Robert Goins of Ellerbe; and a sister, Hester Dillon of Ellerbe.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Arnold and Rev. Tim Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery.
The family will see friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on Cargo Road.
