Mr. Benjamin Powers Boney Sr., 90, of 1003 Rollins Ave., Hamlet, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 at his residence.

He was born in Hamlet Feb. 6, 1919, son of W.C. Boney, Sr. and Sallie Powers Boney.

Mr. Boney worked as a locomotive engineer before retirement for Seaboard Airlines which then became CSX Railroad. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hamlet, where he served as a deacon, Hamlet Lions Club, Williamson Bible Class and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service, starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Hamlet.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. with Rev. Randy Bishop, Dr. Mark Carver and Rev. Sonny Diggs officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Rockfish Cemetery, Hwy. 41, Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his late first wife, Susan Carter Boney; his parents; and brothers, John C. Boney and William C. Boney Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Hunter Barlow Boney of the home; daughters, Christine Boney Weaver of Pawleys Island, S.C.,Ginny Ferguson of Aberdeen and Nanci Boyette of Southern Pines; sons, Cary Carter Boney of Wallace, Benjamin P. Boney, Jr. of Mebane, Wesley Barlow, of Key West, Fla. and David Barlow III of Wilmington and seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US 1 Hwy, Rockingham, NC 28379 or First Baptist Church, 208 Charlotte Street, Hamlet, NC 28345.
