Thrashing gusts blew through much of central North Carolina this past weekend on into Monday, causing at least isolated damage in Richmond County.
Virginia Britt of Brandon Drive in Hamlet said she heard a loud “swooshing noise” late Sunday night followed by the incessant flapping as the roof of a neighboring home was partially blown off and was caught in the wind.
According to Britt, the home is undergoing renovations to the vinyl siding and the family was not at home.
“We have no reports of (any wind damage), which is actually kind of unexpected,” said Frank McKay, director of emergency management in Richmond County.
The winds should subside early Tuesday morning though and it will become increasingly calmer throughout the day, said Russell Henes, forecaster with the National Weather Service.
“It was stronger overnight (on Sunday),” Henes said. “We had quite a few gusts up into the 30s and 40s into the early hours.”
From Richmond County up into the Triad, two to four inches of rain were reported Sunday night, Henes said.
