Let taxpayers decide on important issues

What do Richmond County citizens stand for? It seems to me a logical question that one might ask if they were to look at the past voting history of the county. The Democrat Party rules here and has for my entire life. I wonder when the folks will awaken from their hypnotic trance that induces them to “Vote Democrat.” I simply do not understand this blind loyalty as if to a ball team. Do the folks really believe in the same social and fiscal policies as the current Democrat Party Leaders? I should hope not.

Democrats are rightly called “tax and spend” because they believe themselves more capable of spending your money than you. They take up “worthy” causes such as Cap and Trade, Health Care and Financial Bailouts on your behalf whether you believe in them of not. I recently received a mailing from Congressman Larry Kissell boasting his achievements in securing government money for our district. Good for him. I say that this money is better left in the people’s hands that earned it and not in some redistribution scheme. Let the folks who earned it choose what to spend it on.

Since W.W.II, the normal economic cycle was 42 months of expansion followed by an 11 month recession. When Reagan cut taxes in the 1980s, we experienced an unprecedented 96 months expansion. I say cut the taxes and shrink government immediately.

I’m guess that Richmond County has approximately 100 churches with at least moderate attendance rates, yet the majority of voters rally to the party of at-will abortion. The proposed Democratic health care bill even uses taxpayer’s money to fund abortions. I personally do not want my tax dollars spent on abortions. What say you?

This is how I percieve it... When I stand before God I want him to know that I stood for life in my voting choice not about how much money I can save here on Earth. I simply vote on moarlity views because in the end is it not what we expect from God?

Mr Gerald,

your letter is right on point, and many will totally agree with you. It is early A M thus the foolish ones who will attack you for your letter have not woken up as yet, stand strong in your beliefs as right always surfaces the winner. It is sad that this is all about libs and reps, and not just about Americans. politics have us so divided that we attack our friends and neighbors over their right to a view,if it differs from our own. We call each other horrible names, and try to belittle each other with smart mouthed comments, to make a case for our sides. The ones in politics love to see us this divided as we are easy prey for their agendas.

I don't want my taxes used to fund abortions either. That would somehow force me to be guilty of the murder that is abortion. Like being an unwilling accessory. Good letter Mr Gerald. Some of those so called "christians" at the churches will vote one way anyway to please their buddies. In other words they don't want to look bad. They want to stay in their cliques. God bless the good christians that do take a stand.

Mr. Gerald, I hereby appoint you poet-laureate of

Richmond County, you have skillfully expressed what I have been saying for several years, we need to cut the cord that has for so long tied us to Democrat control, it used to be OK, but look where we are at now and they still blindly vote Democrat, that old story about"My daddy would turn over in his grave if I voted for a Republican" is so out of date, if your daddy was aware of what these current Democrat politians are doing, he would flip-flop in his grave.

Stand-up, be brave, learn what whomever you are about to vote for stands for, then you will vote Republican or Independent

Thank you Mr. Gerald for a great letter which expresses something our Democrat majority has taken leave of recently - good common sense.

This is one of the best letters I have ever read to the Daily Journal... you are right on with everything you said!! I have wondered why in the world people who say they have values and morals would vote for a party that believes in abortion and allowing people that don't work (because they don't want to) to LIVE off the system...

In my opinion, if you are not a contributing member of society, then why should you be allowed to have more luxeries than I have?? I work hard for my money and watch about half of it go to people that sit on their butts and collect a check each month! It makes me so angry!!

And before all of you get your underwear in a wad, I am not talking about people who truely need help (like those with REAL disabilities or those who have fallen on hard times and need assitance)... i am talking about those who were raised in households that TEACH them how to live off the system...

And you guys just continue to vote these people into office in this county... What have any of them done for us... This town is gonna blow away... and all that will be left standing is "the biggest Walmart on the east coast"!!

Excellent letter. I have lived here all my life-that is 50 years to be exact. During this time I have heard folks complain constantly about no high paying jobs, people living off the system, nothing to do and how Richmond county is dying. Yet these same folks who gripe and complain go to the voting booth and vote the same old same old in again and again and again. I mean look how long RW stayed in power.

I finally saw a small crack in the system when the City of Rockingham elected some new blood-Travis Billingsley. I am excited about that.

In saying all of this all I ask is that the people of Richmond county educate themselves on all the candidates. Ask yourself-do you agree with this person's values and ideas?

Like Mr. Gerald said in his letter I bet you won't be voting Democrat.
