A pair of Hamlet residents arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Jan. 12 face a lengthy list of drug-related charges following a tip called into the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and a search of the vehicle.

Information provided by an unknown source alerted deputies to two suspects allegedly selling narcotics in a Richmond County night club.

The caller identified both suspects.

Jerry Allen Robinson, 28, Hallmark Avenue, Hamlet, was charged with felony possession with intent to distribute cocaine, felony possession with intent to distribute marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor resist, obstruct and delay public officer, 11 counts of misdemeanor worthless checks, misdemeanor injury to personal property and driving while intoxicated.

Amy Elizabeth Lanier, 17, Hallmark Avenue, Hamlet, was charged with felony possession with intent to distribute cocaine, felony possession with intent to distribute marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Additionally, the caller provided the vehicle description and tag number.

After identifying the vehicle described at the club, officers parked nearby waiting for the suspects to leave the area.

Around 12:45 a.m., Robinson and Lanier passed the deputies who subsequently pulled out and stopped the car.

Robinson pulled over the vehicle on Hallmark Avenue.

Officers noticed a strong odor alcohol and marijuana on Robinson and from the car.

Robinson admitted to drinking two beers once deputies identified the reason they had been pulled over. Robinson gave permission to search the vehicle.

Lanier told deputies she had marijuana in her purse during the search.

While searching the vehicle, no trunk latch could be found and no key was provided by either suspects claiming they never received one when the car was purchased.

K-9 was called in to further search the vehicle.

Before arriving, one of the deputies noticed a key lying on the ground between Robinson’s feet which fit the trunk’s lock.

A plastic bag with money and drugs was found in the trunk of the vehicle.

Robinson attempted to flee the scene and Lanier was handcuffed.

After a short foot chase, Robinson was subdued after a deputy tased him.

Robinson is in jail under a $52,000 bond. Lanier’s bond was set at $5,000.

Other arrests from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office include:

Donald Wayne McDonald, 38, Second Street, Ellerbe, was arrested by deputies on Jan. 11 for felony possession with intent to sell of distribute, felony maintaining dwelling for controlled substances and misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana. He was released with a written promise to appear in court.

Except for people injured in motor vehicle accidents or reportable deaths, victims including people, businesses and institutions and their addresses are not included as a matter of newspaper policy. Reports include both arrests and criminal summons such as citations. The Daily Journal lists them all as arrests. People charged are presumed innocent until determined to be guilty by a court of law.
