Ina grew up in the Cartledge Creek community where she lived for the greatest part of her life. She was 97 years old at the time of her death and was known by her many friends as “Miss Ina” and “Mud” to her children and grandchildren.
Ina was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Theodore (Ted) Waters; her son, H. Francis Waters, and a daughter-in-law, Betty H. Waters.
She is survived by her son, Calvin Theodore (Ted) Waters, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis P. Waters; her grandchildren, Lydia Waters Hadden, Donna R. Waters, H. Francis Waters, Jr., and Cheryl Waters Speight. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Chuck Yow, Lauren Waters Nettles, and Sarah and Kristen Speight; three great-great grandchildren, Travis and Kyleigh Yow and Braelyn Nettles; a very close nephew, Jim Biddix and his wife, Winona, who lived close by; and many other nieces, nephews and relatives.
Ina has one surviving sister, Jewel K. Hadley, and four surviving sisters-in-law, Elsie Kelly, Sarah Kelly, Dorothy Kelly, and Genevra Kelly. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Ella K. Biddix, Sally K. Coble, and Hallie K. Huggins; her brothers, Jack Kelly, David Kelly, Walter Kelly, and James Kelly.
Ina and her husband were charter members of Crestview Baptist Church. Until the time of her death, Ina was the oldest living member of Crestview. She and her husband owned and operated Waters Restaurant for many years in Rockingham. She was known for her good home-cooked meals and hospitality. “Mud” was a wonderful mother and grandmother whose love and devotion to her family was unconditional. Ina was extremely proud of her heritage and always remained close to her brothers and sisters. She was a very positive, gracious and kind person, always greeting everyone with a smile.
The family will receive friends, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Crestview Baptist Church (fellowship room) prior to the service at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan.19, 2010. Rev. William S. Kearse, Jr. will be officiating the services. Burial will be at Richmond Memorial Park following the church service. Memorials may be made to the Crestview Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of her son, Ted Waters Jr.
