The Lady Raiders remained perfect on the season at 9-0 with the win over the Bucks. Richmond opened with a 16-0 run, and ended up outscoring Hoke 16-1 in the quarter.
“We got off to a great start out of the gate,” said Richmond coach Lisa Bigley. “We have a strong team, and the girls played with a lof energy.”
In addition to an explosive night on offense, the Lady Raiders were playing stifling defense, using a half-court trap to create multiple turnovers.
Many of those were converted into points.
The Lady Raiders held Hoke to four points in the second quarter, one in the third, and three in the fourth. Richmond led 40-15 at intermission and 57-6 at the third stop.
“We played excellent defense tonight,” Bigley said. “We made them react to what we were doing, and we were able to create a lot of turnovers.”
Tiara Elerbe led Richnond with 20 points — many of those on layups created off turnovers.
Deshantia Bell added 14 points and Brittany Covington chipped in with 12.
The Lady Raiders will hit the road for a pair of SEC games nex week.
They will travel to Purnell Swett on Tuesday and Lumberton on Friday.
Both games are scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m.
