During the Richmond County Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting Tuesday night, the board is scheduled to discuss amendments to the tower ordinance.

It’s the only item on the agenda, and discussion will be based on new changes based on comments from the county commissioners at their regular December meeting.

The alterations include the definition of a fall area to say “Fall area, which lays the same fall area for all towers at 100 percent of height.”

Commissioners feared there would be too much risk involved with having a fall area any less than that for all communication towers.

The alterations to the ordinance also include removing any exemptions from the rules and guidelines - so all communications towers will have to meet the same rules.

The planning board will discuss the amendments to the ordinance and then refer the ordinance back to the county commissioners for approval.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the county administration building located at 125 S. Hancock St. in Rockingham.
