Mae Crawford Yates and Leroy Yates of Rockingham celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17, 2009. Mr. and Mrs. Yates are lifetime residents of Richmond County. The Yates established and operated Industrial Electric Company for 25 years. Currently, Mr. Yates is owner and an active agent of Leroy Yates Realty. The couple’s community activities include being founding members of the Rockingham Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and the Cameron Morrison Prison Ministry. The Yates also designed and built the first disaster relief/mobile kitchen vehicle for the Baptist Men of NC. They are members of First Baptist Church in Rockingham, where Mr.Yates serves as deacon and head usher. He is a member of the Rockingham Masonic Lodge No. 495 and is a former rotary member. Mr. Yates has twice received the Governor’s award for Volunteerism. The couple celebrated their anniversary with their children, Dennis and wife, Kay, of Concord and Carol Day and husband, Vann, of Carrboro. The couple has three grandchildren, Josh and Cameron Yates of Salt Lake City, UT, and Sam Warnock of Raleigh.
