Highway Patrol finds driver in hospital

An Ellerbe man involved in an accident on Dec. 5 failed to report it to the Highway Patrol but was tracked down in the hospital, according to reports.

Donald Eugene Lampley, 23, Firetower Road, Ellerbe, was involved in an accident on Sandhills Game Road after exceeding a safe speed, according to reports from the North Carolina Highway Patrol. He ran off the road to the right as he went around a curve.

He subsequently hit a road sign, continued down an embankment and struck a tree.

According to reports, Lampley called for medical assistance once he reached his home, 15 miles away. He never called the Highway Patrol to notify them of the collision or that he was going to the hospital and was also cited for hit and run.

He was located by troopers the following day at the hospital.

Damage to his 1995 Chevrolet was estimated at $6,500.

Other accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol Office include:

n Jackie McNair Hall, 55, East Nash Street, Southport, struck a road sign on U.S. 1 near Hoffman on Dec. 8 when she swerved off the right side of the road to avoid oncoming traffic in her lane.

She came to rest on an unfinished portion of the roadway.

Damage to her 2008 Volvo was estimated at $2,000.

n On Dec. 7, Casey Danielle Smith, 21, Sharon Road, Rockingham, swerved while she was traveling on McDonald Church Road, overcorrected her vehicle and veered off the road to the right striking a tree.

She came to rest in a wooded area off the roadway.

Damage to her 2003 Toyota was estimated at $3,000.

She was transported to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.

n Brenda Gay Bennett, 44, Hwy. 385, Bennettsville, was traveling on N.C. Hwy. 177 on Dec. 5 when she told the highway patrol she thought she struck a pedestrian walking on the centerline of the road.

Officers noted in reports that they were able to see the mirror was damaged but was unable to find an debris or any person she may have impacted.

Her 2003 Ford received $200 in damages.

n Frank Thurman-Stansill McQueen, 58, Rudy Lane, Rockingham, and Judy Reddick Dumas, 61, Greenland Road, Ellerbe, were involved in an accident on Ellerbe Road on Dec. 5.

According to reports, McQueen was stopped at a stop sign on Sandhills Game when Dumas attempted to cross Ellerbe Road, meanwhile McQueen began to move forward and struck the driver side door of Dumas’ vehicle.

McQueen was cited with a failure to yield violation.

Damage to McQueen’s 2003 Dodge was estimated at $2,500 and damage to Dumas’ 2008 Chrysler was estimated at $2,500.

Arrests and incidents reported by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office include:

n Mannix Maurice McCray, 39, Paul McLendon Street, Hamlet, was arrested for felony burning of personal property.

According to reports, McCray had set fire to a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban in the owner’s driveway. The owner stated she heard a loud noise outside and noticed the vehicle on fire.

Next to the vehicle was a five gallon gas can and a blue coat the victim recognized as one the subject wore earlier that day.

n Larry Edward Woods Jr., 26, Roberdel Road, Rockingham, was arrested for felony larceny and felony obtaining property by false pretense.

Reports state that the suspect took radiators out of nine vehicles that he had stored in a wooded area near his house. Also, an air-conditioning unit was removed from a bus parked at the same location.

n Angela Lisk Brady, 37, Pence Street, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor larceny, felony identity theft, forgery of endorsement, uttering forged endorsement and felony obtaining property by false pretense.

He was released with a written promise to appear in court.

Incidents reported by the Rockingham Police Department include:

n A vehicle sitting in the parking lot of an apartment complex was reported broken into and $130 worth of CDs stolen.

n On Sunset Belt someone reported a domestic dispute.

n Someone was reported being threatened by an individual on Jerry Lynn Drive when they pointed a gun at them.

n A restaurant on East Broad Avenue was broken into and an office door was smashed, a computer monitor stolen and a safe damaged.

n Tires on a vehicle were slashed on Cabell Boulevard.

n Officers reported a mother to DSS after she had left her child in the back seat of a vehicle while she was inside shopping.

n A home on Old River Road was broken into and $320 worth of property stolen.

n On Cauthen Drive, a victim reported being cut with a knife.

n Myrna Ann Troxler, 35, Roberdel School Road, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor communicating threats.

n Bobby Joe Buffkin Jr., 36, Cauthen Drive, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor failure to appear.

n Dameon Alexander Richardson, 26, Eastside Drive, was arrested for failure to appear. Bond was set at $500.

Arrest reports published in the Richmond County Daily Journal are copied from local law enforcement records. Except for people injured in motor vehicle accidents or reportable deaths, victims including people, businesses and institutions and their addresses are not included as a matter of newspaper policy. Reports include both arrests and criminal summons such as citations. The Daily Journal lists them all as arrests. People charged are presumed innocent until determined to be guilty by a court of law.
