The meeting is set for the Rockingham City Hall’s council chambers at 7:30 p.m.
Councilmen Steve Morris and John Hutchinson will be re-administered the oath after earning additional terms on the public body in last month’s municipal election, while council newcomer Travis Billingsley takes the oath for the first time.
In addition to these ceremonies, the council’s agenda calls for the appointment of city officials new City Clerk Gwendolyn Swinney to replace current Clerk Johnsey Lunsford, whose retirement is effective December 30.
In a memo included in the agenda packet, City Manager Monty Crump wrote that as Lunsford’s retirement approached, “the City has been preparing a successor for the Mayor and City Council to consider for permanent appointment.”
Swinney has been the deputy clerk since June 2006, and is certified as a municipal clerk through the UNC School of Government, the memo notes.
City council will also be asked to approve the appointments of Reece Saunders as City Attorney and Sabrina McDonald as Deputy City Clerk, according to the agenda.
The city council is also scheduled to receive an update on the activities of the Rockingham Housing Authority from former-Interim Executive Director Jim McCaskill and Board Chairwoman Denise Sullivan.
McCaskill was replaced by new RHA Executive Director Angela McGill,
