Herman Lee Covington, 44, Patterson Road, Rockingham, was struck by a vehicle driven by Andres Figueroa, 20, Pickett Street, Rockingham, while walking along U.S. 74 near Hamlet around 11:15 p.m.
According to reports, Figueroa clipped Covington while traveling at 45 miles per hour while he was walking along the side of the road.
Figueroa returned to the scene to check on Covington who was lying on the shoulder of U.S. 74.
Covington was taken to Sandhills Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries received during the collision.
No citations were issued and damage to Figueroa’s 1993 Honda was estimated at $800.
Other accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol include:
Kegan Scott Millshood, 19, Glenn Drive, Goldsboro, and Kevin Thaddeus Chappell, 23, Hwy. 73, Ellerbe, were involved in an accident on Dec. 2 when Millshood failed to yield to the right of way and collided with Chappell in the intersection of Hwy. 73 and Bennett Road.
Millshood was cited with a failure to yield to right of way violation.
Damage to Millshood’s 1998 Chrysler was estimated at $2,500 and Chappell’s 1999 Toyota also received $2,500 in damages.
Joseph Daniel Watts, 25, Wedgewood Drive, Foxfire Village, and Jody Brigman Goins, 33, Batton Road, collided on U.S. 1 on Dec. 5 around 8 p.m. when Watts attempted to make a left turn into a driveway and Goins failed to reduce speed, according to reports.
Watts was subsequently rear-ended by Goins who was traveling about 50 miles per hour.
Goins was cited with a failure to reduce speed violation.
Watts’ 2006 Toyota received $1,200 in damage and Goins’ 1986 Honda received $2,000 in damages.
On Dec. 4 at 7:50 p.m., Alexander Mason, 65, Harris Drive, Rockingham, overturned his vehicle on Hwy. 74 while suffering from an episode triggered by a pre-existing medical condition, reports said.
Mason ran off the road to the right and came to a stop, yet due to wet conditions he slid down an embankment and overturned.
The vehicle came to rest on its roof.
Mason was transported to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
Damage to his 1991 Chevrolet was estimated at $2,000.
Jeremy Ray Ard, 17, Carolina Street, Rockingham, was involved in an accident Dec. 3 on Roberdel School Road around 7:35 a.m. while exceeding a safe speed, the highway patrol said.
Ard lost control of the vehicle and struck a mailbox, a newspaper box, a phone box and eventually a utility pole.
Ard was cited with exceeding a safe speed and no driver’s license.
He was transported to Sandhills Regional Medical Center for injuries.
Damage to his 1998 Mazda was estimated at $5,000.
