Raider Green boys best Tigers

The Richmond Green freshmen boys basketball won its second game in a row since dropping its opener against Scotland.

Josh Calhoun scored 14 points and DJ Cooke added nine as the Green team cruised to a 50-30 victory over South View Thursday afternoon at the Richmond Ninth Grade Academy gymnasium.

The Green team led 23-19 at halftime, but took a 15-point lead into the fourth quarter.

“Defensively, we got after it, created some turnovers, and that resulted in points,” Green team coach Jay Jones said.

The Raider Green boys team (2-1) return to action on Tuesday against Pinecrest at the Ninth Grade Academy gym. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.

Raider Gold boys 44, Purnell Swett 19

PEMBROKE — CJ Lyons scored 16 points and Robert Williams netted 14 points as the Gold team bounced back from a 52-39 loss to Pinecrest on Monday.

“We just outhustled them, and offensively, we did a great job of moving the ball around,” Gold team coach Milton Swinnie said. “We rebounded and shot better at the free-throw line than the last game. I also liked how we got after it defensively.”

The Raider Gold boys team (2-1) return to action on Tuesday at Scotland starting at 6 p.m.

Raider Gold girls 40, Purnell Swett 29

PEMBROKE — The Richmond Gold girls overcame a scoreless second quarter to defeat the Lady Rams and win their second in a row.

Swett outscored Richmond 10-0 in the second to lead 14-9 at halftime. But the Lady Raiders came back to outscore the Lady Rams 19-4 in the third to lead 29-18 going into the fourth. Keyvana Stanback paced Richmond with 16 points.

“We went to a full court press that produced turnovers, and we were able to turn them into transition baskets,” Gold team coach Darrell Wright said.

The Raider Gold girls (2-1) return to action on Tuesday at Scotland with tipoff at 4:30 p.m.
