Seventeen dogs and cats were adopted from the Humane Society of Richmond County last week, said Candy Bacon, director.  Of this number, four dogs and two cats were adopted using the $25 "fixed" animal adoption special.

Due to the success of the $25 program, the adoption special has been extended to Dec. 8. A $6 charge for the one year rabies vaccine and the $5 charge for a cat carrier are the only additional charges.

The HSRC animal shelter is located at 529 US Highway 74 Business West, two miles west of downtown Rockingham.  The shelter is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday noon to 4 p.m and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.  The shelter is closed to the public Wednesdays.
