“We decided to move because we wanted to be able to be more customer friendly as far as parking goes and also wanted to have a drop-off location around back,” said Crystal McLendon, executive director of New Horizons.
Community Treasures is essentially a thrift store selling men’s, women’s and children’s clothing as well as various household items like dishes, curtains, bedding and other items.
Proceeds collected from sales will go to New Horizons, a local domestic violence and sexual assault agency.
Although Community Treasures won’t officially open its doors at its new location until Tuesday, today they will be opening the doors for donations from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Board member volunteers from New Horizons will be on-site to collect donations and hand out vouchers to those donating.
Those who donate two bags or more will receive $5 of their next purchase of $10 or more at Community Treasures, according to McLendon.
Community Treasures moved from its location on South Hancock Street to 237 A E. Broad Ave., Rockingham with the help of Tim and Nicole Hayden, according to McLendon.
“We had been looking around and once we saw the building, we made the decision quickly,” McLendon said.
Community Treasures opened in 2003, McLendon said.
