This year offers a fresh slate of holiday programs at county schools during the countdown to Christmas break.

The holiday season kicks off in the schools with the tree lighting ceremony at the Roberdel Children’s Center at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and features events to take place on eight more days between then and December 17.

The evening of Dec. 3 is scheduled to feature two events at area elementary schools. First, the Cordova Elementary Christmas program will be at 6 p.m. that evening, then Washington Street Elementary will have its own Christmas program at 7 p.m.

Dec. 8 will see programs at four schools. Monroe Avenue Elementary Winter Wonderland is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening, with a concert at 7 p.m.

The Rohanen Primary Christmas Program will follow on the evening of December 8 at 6 p.m. This event will be held at Cordova Elementary.

The L.J. Bell Elementary Christmas program is also scheduled for 7 p.m. that evening, as is the Richmond Senior High Christmas Concert, which will take place at Cole Auditorium in Hamlet.

On Dec. 4, Fairview Heights Elementary Holiday Concert is the only event scheduled, and it is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Dec. 15 there are four events scheduled.

First, the Richmond County Transitional School Dinner Theater is slated to start at 6 p.m. on that day, then the Rohanen Middle Christmas Concert, the Ellerbe Middle Holiday Concert and the Hamlet Middle Christmas Program at the Cole Auditorium are all scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The next day, December 16, the Leak Street High Christmas Program is the only event scheduled, and it begins at 7 p.m.

Dec. 17 will mark the end of the season of holiday programs at area schools, when both the Mineral Springs Elementary Holiday Program and the Rockingham Middle Christmas Concert are slated to start at 7 p.m.
