Brian Love nailed six- 3-pointers and scored a team-high 28 points, while Will Freeman had a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds and Jide Reddick added 13 points and 10 boards as the Raiders defeated South View 74-58 Tuesday night.
“It was a great win, and it’s always good to start the season 1-0,” Laton said.
Richmond led 39-33 at halftime, but pulled way in the third. The Raiders limited the Tigers to six points in the quarter to extend the advantage to 54-39, going into the fourth.
“We really talked at halftime about covering the interior, and cutting out drives to the basket,” Laton said. “We did a pretty good job of doing that in the second half.”
The Raiders return to action next Tuesday at South Robeson at 7:30 p.m.

Earlier, the Lady Raiders rallied from an 18 -5 first-quarter deficit to down the Lady Tigers.
“The girls stepped it up a notch after a slow start,” Richmond interim head coach Nellie Harrington said.
LaShey Brown led Richmond with 25 points. “LaShay played an awesome game, and we raised our defensive intensity after the first quarter,” Harrington said. “We forced some turnovers, which helped us ger our offense going.”
I’Teonna McLaughlin and Torrie Ingram added 10 points apiece for the Raiders.
