The Richmond County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, which is a board of community leaders that with the partnership of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, work together to develop programs and services to reduce and prevent juvenile crime; applied for and was awarded a $36,000 Community-based Youth Gang Prevention Grant. The grant is funded using federal Byrne/JAG funds supplied through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The grant will be used to perform a gang assessment of Richmond County. The findings of the grant may open the opportunity for additional development of programs and services to reduce and prevent juvenile crime.
