Helmets on and engines ready, 15 Richmond County residents took to the road this past weekend in Ooltewah, Tenn. and brought home several trophies.

During the third annual All American Mower Championship, Nov. 7-8, at the Savannah Valley Mower Speedway, 154 lawnmower racers from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Kansas, Virginia, Alabama, California and even Canada participated in 11 different events.

The group from Richmond County participated in six of those events bringing home awards.

Heat races were held Saturday to determine start positions for the main races which were Sunday

In the Super Sportsman class, Richmond County took seven of the top 10 positions out of 27 mowers. Chris Poole placed first, Russell Crouch placed third, Rex Crouch Jr. placed fourth, Jake Vuncannon placed fifth, Jeff Crouch placed seventh, Josh Raines placed eighth, Daniel Crouch placed ninth, Rex Crouch Sr. placed 13th, Leo Poole placed 14th and David Poole placed 16th.

In the Super Modified class Crouch Jr. placed first and Matt Hewett placed in second.

In the Mod X class, Vuncannon placed first and Charles Ford placed second.

In the Pro X class, Jason Bennett came in third.

In the Outlaw Single Cylinder Crouch came in first, Ford second, Ed Gallant placed sixth.

And in the Outlaw V-Twin class, Vuncannon placed first and Drew Terry second.

This same group of guys, ages ranging from late teens to mid 50s race April through October in Ellerbe every other weekend and have previously traveled to Georgia and Tennessee for lawnmower races. This was their third year in this particular race.
