Mr. Carpenter was born Sept. 2, 1911 in Anson County, a son of the late William and Ella Meacham Carpenter. He served his country in the South Carolina State Army Guard. He was a supervisor in the textile industry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Jenkins Carpenter.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 13, 2009 at Richmond County Memorial Park with Rev. Lester English officiating.
He is survived by his daughter, Jere C. Ludlum of Safety Harbor, Fla., one sister, Mary Helen Carpenter of Charlotte and one granddaughter.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home of Rockingham.
