The first $3 million top prize on the new “$200 Million Extravaganza” instant scratch-off game has been claimed! Patricia Smith of Hamlet bought one ticket from the Wilco on West Hamlet Avenue in Hamlet and scratched off the top prize.

“I never thought it would be me,” Smith said when she claimed her prize at the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) headquarters. “But I felt like it was about time for something to happen.”

The $3 million prize is paid in 20 annual installments of $150,000 (less taxes). Smith has already received her first check, which was $102,006.40 after taxes. She told lottery officials she wasn’t sure what she would do with her winnings, but that she would continue to work as an in-home health care worker.
