The Richmond Lady Raider volleyball team knows it will advance to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s state volleyball tournament, they just don’t know their opponent yet.
The Lady Raiders finished second to Scotland in the Southeastern Conference regular season and received a first-round bye in the conference tournament. Richmond will begin play tonight at 6 p.m. against either Lumberton or Pinecrest. The Lady Raiders swept the Lady Pirates, while they split with the Lady Patriots during the regular season.
According to Richmond coach Wendy Wallace, Scotland has secured the No. 1 seed out of the SEC no matter who wins the conference tournament. However, Richmond’s fate has not been determined.
If neither Scotland nor Richmond win the conference tournament, then the Lady Raiders would fall back to the No. 3 seed out of the SEC.
Currently, the Lady Raiders would begin play in the state playoffs at home Saturday against the No. 3 team out of the Mid-South, which is Terry Sanford. However, if Richmond were to move down to the No. 3 seed, the Lady Raiders would play host to the No. 3 seed out of the PAC-6.
