Driver cited in three vehicle wreck

On Oct. 5, an accident on U.S. 1 caused several thousand dollars worth of damage to three vehicles, according to reports from the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Around 10:30 a.m., Gretchen Isaacs Twining, 30, Columbia Pike, Arlington, Va., failed to yield after leaving a parking lot when Vickie Lynn Miller, 21, Steen Road, Mt. Croghan, S.C. and Samuel Edward Everhart, 54, Black Farm Road, Thomasville, both were traveling south on US 1.

Twining collided with Miller, who was traveling in the left lane. Everhart was subsequently sideswiped by Miller, who was traveling in the right lane of U.S. 1. Miller’s vehicle then overturned on the highway.

Twining was cited with a failure to yield violation.

Damage to Twining’s 2006 GMC was estimated at $2,500. Miller’s 2003 Saturn received $5,000 and Everhart’s 1988 Chevy received $1,200.

Other accidents reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol include:

n At 4:40 p.m. on Oct. 12 on Perry Avenue, Franklin Jamision Jr., 47, Horseshoe Drive, Hamlet and Joe Alexander Young, 61, Rose Street, Hamlet, were involved in an accident after Jamison failed to stop to a stop sign on Daniels Street and struck the left side of Young’s vehicle.

Both parties were taken to Sandhills Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Jamison was cited with failure to stop for a stop sign.

Damage to Jamison’s 2005 Nissan was estimated at $3,500 and damage to Young’s 1998 Toyota was estimated at $2,500.

n On Oct. 10 at 4 a.m. on Old Wix Road, David James Marshburn Jr., 39, Old Wix Road, Rockingham, was involved in an accident after veering off the road to the right, re-entering the roadway and veered off the road again and overcorrected. After overcorrecting, he flipped his vehicle which came to rest on the roadway, according to reports.

Marshburn left the scene of the accident and was located a short time later by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Marshburn was cited with driving with license revoked, failure to maintain lane control, reckless driving and hit and run.

Damage to his 2003 Kia was estimated at $8,500.

n On Oct. 10 at 1:10 p.m. on Old Cheraw Highway, Michael Lynn Bowers, Country Canyon Drive, Rockingham, was involved in an accident while impaired by alcohol. He ran off the road to the right, corrected himself and veered off the left side of the road, hitting an embankment, according to reports.

He was cited with driving while impaired and exceeding a safe speed.

Damage to his 1996 Toyota was estimated at $4,500.

n On Oct. 10 at 7:50 p.m. on N.C. Hwy. 73, an unknown driver ran a stop sign and collided with a building. The driver fled the scene prior to the investigation. The facade of the building was damaged and the front of the building was in danger of collapsing, according to reports from the highway patrol.

n On Oct. 10 at 1:09 a.m. on Sandhill Game Road, Christopher Lamar Rhodes, 20, McNeill Road, Rockingham, was involved in an accident after losing control of his vehicle, overcorrected and slid off the road, striking several small trees. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof.

Rhodes was under the influence of alcohol during the accident, according to reports.

He was cited with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving and no seat belt.

Damage to his 1993 Honda was estimated at $2,000.
