James Diggs
Bobby was born July 14, 1940 in Rockingham County to the late Robert Lee Diggs and Ella Mae McCaskill Diggs. He was a member of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church where he served as former chairman of the deacons and a Sunday school teacher. He attended North Carolina State University. Bobby retired from CP&L, now Progress Energy. Following his retirement he was an assistant funeral director with Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. He served as past president and secretary of the Sanford Lions Club, as well as district secretary for the Lions Club. He was a loving husband and served as a model of Christian living to his family and friends. Bobby was preceded in death by his son, James Robert Diggs, Jr., who died in 2007.
He is survived by his wife Mayna Anderson Diggs; two brothers, William Diggs and wife Nancy of Myrtle Beach and Henry Clay Diggs of Virginia; one sister Yvonne Diggs Horne and husband Bill of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren, Kristen Diggs Anderson and husband David of Benson and James “Robert” Diggs III of Sanford.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 17 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Dr. Mark Gaskins presiding. Burial will follow in Broadway Town Cemetery.
