Motion light helps nab suspect in Rockingham

A homeowner on Ann Street in Rockingham reported an attempted breaking and entering when she saw her outside lights had been triggered early in the morning on Oct. 8. When she went outside to check on what why it had been triggered, she noticed someone running towards her backyard.

The officer who responded to the scene apprehended the suspect.

Along with the suspect, the Rockingham Police Department apprehended a number of other suspects over the weekend in connection with both home and motor vehicle breaking and entering cases, according to Chief Robert Vorhees with the Rockingham Police Department.

Many of the cases have been cleared and the suspects in custody.

According to Vorhees, one suspect is still wanted by the police department.

Other incidents reported by the Rockingham Police Department include:

n A business on East Broad Avenue reported boots valued at $100 stolen from the store.

n A car owner at a local hospital reported her front headlights had been smashed. Damage is estimated at $500.

n A car on Fayetteville Road was broken into. Two shotguns, valued at $1,500 were stolen. A $500 pistol and ammunition was also reported missing.

n A car on Carolina Drive was broken into and $7 cash stolen.

n A vehicle on South Long Drive was broken into and a $300 GPS system was missing and a $20 CD player.

n An apartment on McArthur Drive was broken into and $270 in cash, an unverified amount of jewelry and important identification information was stolen.

n A home on McArthur Drive was reported by the owner to have been broken into and $600 in cash was missing.

n An officer reported pulling an individual over who provided fictitious information.

n A home on Cox Street was broken into and $280 in cash was stolen, along with clothing and a wallet.

n A car on Beaver Wood Court was broken into and $6 worth of cologne was stolen from the vehicle.

n An air compressor was stolen from a business on East Washington Street. The compressor is valued at $400.

n A car on East Broad Avenue was broken into and a $300 GPS was stolen.

n Several hundreds of dollars in jewelry and property was stolen from a vehicle on Scales Street.

n A radar detector was stolen from a vehicle on Rockingham Road. The detector is valued at $150.

n Someone threw yard debris and grass clippings onto a vehicle on Rosemont Lane.

n A woman was robbed as she was walking to her car after closing a business down for the night. The suspect stole over $7,000 worth cash belonging to the business.

n A vehicle was broken into on Cauthen Drive and a $300 CD player was stolen.

Arrests reported by the Rockingham Police Department include:

n Gregory Wayne Brown, 36, Chalk Road, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor communicating threats.

n Justin Clint Lewis, 19, Garrett Street, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor assault on a female.

n Benita Danielle Dumas, 21, JFK Drive, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

n Sayquan Demetraus Baker, 22, JFK Drive, Rockingham, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic assault.
