Ellerbe sweeps Rohanen in volleyball

The Ellerbe Middle School volleyball team defeated Rohanen 25-10, 18-25 and 15-5 in game one and 25-13 and 25-19 in the second game Monday afternoon.

Asiana Douglas had 14 service points for Rohanen and Abbie Hudson added 10, including two service aces.

Rohanen (1-5) returns to action today at Anson Blue.

Rockingham beats Anson Orange

The Rockingham Middle School volleyball squad swept Anson Orange 25-11 and 25-23 in the first game and 22-25, 25-15 and 15-9 in the second game Monday afternoon.

Lauren Brewer led the way with 26 service points, while Ashton Davenport added 22. Cailey Freeman tallied 18 service points and Chelsea Davis contributed 16.

Rockingham (5-3) returns to action Monday at Rohanen.

Big Game Hunt registrations accepted

Registration continues for the big game hunting season. The hunt dates will be Nov. 27-28.

The Anson County Chamber of Commerce will offer money prizes for first through fifth place in buck and doe categories, and first through fourth place in the youth buck and doe categories. Door prizes will be available during the annual banquet at the Ansonville Volunteer Fire Department on Nov. 28.

Loch Haven to hold night golf tourney

Loch Haven Golf Course will host a two-man captain’s choice night golf tournament on Oct. 17.

The cost is $35 per perscon and includes dinner. Lighted balls will be provided and participants are asked to bring a flashlight.

Youth basketball sign up

Registration for boys and girls’ youth basketball will continue through Nov. 5.

The fee is $20 for Rockingham city residents and $30 for non-city residents. There will be an additional $6 charge if not currently insured.

The age category breakdown for the individual leagues are as follows: Mini-Mite league - boys and girls (7-8) cannot turn 9-years-old on or before Jan. 1. Mite league - boys and girls (9-10) cannot turn 11 on or before Jan. 1. Midget league - boys and girls (11-12) cannot turn 13 on or before Jan. 1. Junior league - boys and girls (13-14) cannot turn 15 on or before Jan. 1. Senior league - boys (15-16) cannot turn 17 on or before Jan. 1.

Hamlet Booster Club to offer fall baseball, softball

The Hamlet Booster Club will be accepting registrations for fall baseball and softball on Oct. 17 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hamlet Memorial Park Gym.

The cost is $30 per child.

Baseball participants must by 9-years-old by April 30, 2009 and cannot turn 13 before the same date. Softball players must be 7-years-old by April 30, 2009 and cannot turn 11 before the same date.
