Gibson was charged with two counts of assault and battery with intent to kill, assault with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a person unlawful and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
A second suspect, Charlie James Little Jr., 22, Spring Street, Hamlet, turned himself in Tuesday morning in connection with the shooting.
“Both of the suspects have long criminal records and acted recklessly this past Sunday morning,” said Lt. Seales of the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office. “They were inches away from becoming murder suspects.”
Around 2:40 a.m. at a nightclub located near the Marlboro and Richmond County lines in Wallace, S.C., Marlboro County sheriff’s deputies responded to a possible shooting. Upon arrival, two security personnel were discovered shot, one of which was shot twice. Both guards were transported to Cherterfield General Hospital.
Reports say one other security officer was shot at, but not wounded during the incident.
Neither suspects were on the scene when sheriff’s deputies arrived.
Both suspects have a long criminal records, according to the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office.
Gibson was sentenced to 34 to 50 months in jail in 2003 for an assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure. That sentence was compacted with other violations including a discharging a weapon onto occupied property and probation violations.
Earlier than that, he was found guilty of two counts of felony breaking and entering in 1996, larceny after breaking and entering in late 1997 and possession of a firearm by a felon in 1999.
He had also been charged with other motor vehicle violations, including driving while intoxicated.
Little was arrested in 2006 for possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia and put on a 12-month probation for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Little also had assorted motor vehicle violations.
Presently, both men are in custody and according to the Marlboro Sheriff’s Office, the incident is still under investigation.
