The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at St. David’s Episcopal Church officiated by Rev. Marty Stebbins. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Hillside Memorial Park.
Mr. Fedak was born in Monongahela, Pennsylvania on Nov. 15, 1919. He was the son on the late John Fedak and Helen Huzda Fedak and the devoted husband of the late Marie Burge Fedak. He was a disabled veteran of World War II proudly serving as a member of the United States Army, the 25th Infantry Division. In recognition of his service and bravery, Mr. Fedak was awarded two Purple Heart Medals and the Bronze Star Medal. He was the first United States soldier to put into action the G.I. Bill for funding his education.
His distinguished career in education included service with the Scotland County School System and retiring as Director of Title Three programs with Richmond Community College. After retirement, he served in education with the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
Mr. Fedak’s other accomplishments include being a faithful member of St. David’s Episcopal Church of Laurinburg. He was a member of the American Legion for more than 65 years also serving as a former Post Commander while residing in Pennsylvania. He formerly served as the Past President of Little League International and the Youth Soccer Association. He was currently a member of the Scotland County Literacy Council.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Fedak was also preceded in death by a brother, John Fedak and Sister Mary Turic.
He is survived by his son, Michael “Mike” Fedak and wife Jeanne of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Michael “Mike” Fedak and wife Laura of Laurinburg, Jolee Johnson and her husband Jeremy Johnson of Laurinburg, his precious grandchild, Riley Fedak and a sister, Betty Anthony of Monongahela, PA.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mr. Fedak to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
