Mrs. Ruth Parker Hollifield, 90, of Hamlet, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at Britthaven of Hamlet. She was born July 24, 1919 in Bethune, SC, a daughter of the late Lewis and Callie Victoria Horton. Mrs. Hollifield worked with Soabarian Avery Int. Company until her retirement.

Funeral services will be conducted graveside Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Richmond County Memorial Park with the Rev. Colin Shaw officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service; from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet and at other times at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Adams, 409 Jefferson St., Hamlet.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Basil Lee Parker; her second husband, Hershel Hollifield; a son, Rex Parker; sisters, Patsy Dean, Josie Jones, Nettie White, Polly Seagers, Bill Horton, and Ruby Anderson; and a great grandson, Kendall Pace.

Surviving are a daughter, Vickie Adams of Hamlet; a son, Billy Parker of McBee, SC; two step sons, Phil Hollifield of Concord, NC and Mike Hollifield of Forest City, NC; a brother, Richard Horton of Lexington, SC; a sister, Myrtis Knight of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
