Local Quail Unlimited chapter to hold fundraiser next month

The Sandhills Chapter of Quail Unlimited will host its annual fundraising banquet on Oct. 1 at the Webb Farm, which is located at 522 John Webb Road, Ellerbe.

Quail Unlimited is a national conservation organization founded in 1981 to combat the problem of dwindling quail populations as a result of declining habitat. In the last five years, the Quail Unlimited chapters have been responsible for nearly $20 million in habitat expenditures.

Chapters are also involved in informational and educational events for interested landowners and youths.

Quail Unlimited biologists have been active in the promotion of wildlife provisions, as well as, being members of the Southeastern Quail Study Group.

One recent provision of their farm bill legislation was the CP-33 practice of Conservation Reserve Program. It provides upland habitat buffers that greatly benefit quail and other early species.

The CP-33 practice offers opportunities for those interested in quail management and improving overall habitat on their properties.

The public is invited to attend the banquet and to join the local chapter for the night. Activities include a meal, raffles and games, as well as, live and silent auctions. Auction items include firearms, prints and other specialty merchandise.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets should be purchased by Sept. 15 to qualify for early drawings to win a half-day hunt at the Webb Farm.
